Artifact essay

My clothing Artifact;

One clothing artifact that I hold dear to me is my moms black button down. My mother took my dads shirt and made it into her own, and then I took it from her when she was dong laundry. It’s just a simple extra large black button down, but I love how simple it looks and how fashionable it makes me feel. This clothing piece means a lot to me, not only because it It is fashionable but because it reminds me of my parents. The shirt, regardless of how many washes smells like both my mom and my dad. The smell of the shirt and how big and soft it feels on me allows me to protected at all times whenever I wear it.

I think the clothing piece, Shows that I don’t believe that every single piece of clothing go to just one gender. Although it is a men’s shirt you could not tell by just looking at me, you would probably just being there is an oversized women’s button down. I think people perceive me as a normal person wearing a large button down shirt. The button down doesn’t call too much attention, simple because it is black with no design on it. I think that when people see me they would just think that I am not a fan ion tight shirts.

I do believe that the things we wear affect how other perceive us, eve though that is not ideal to me. I believe that when people see me they receive me another another person trying to follow this “hipster” vibe that’s currently a trend. ‘Tis is due to the fact that i normal wear the black button with a pair of tight jeans ( preferable ripped ones) and a popular sneaker or boot. This can be seen as a trend today in popular culture especially paired with the new fad of “mom jeans”. Although this may affect how others see me, that is not my attention, whenever i wear the button down it is not to present any certain image or portray myself a certain way, I usually wear it when I do not feel lie finding an actual outfit and I know that if i wear that shirt my outfit problems for the day wold be solved.

I believe that perceived Identity can be altered simply by clothing choices because in today’s society people assume that if you wear something that, that is how you always dress and that it determines they way you act. For example people may assume that when girls always wear pink that they are feminine. Or another example could be me, I wear black very women often, and people assume that I am either a very closed off person , or they assume that I am not only fashionable but trendy and want to resemble popular culture and be like a “Tumblr girl” ( someone who only follows trends for social media).

Some identities that you can not change is you or physical characteristics, and ultimately the way people think you are by the way your dress. People are always going t assume your identity and you most likely can not change their minds. This can affect the way i move through the world because it can make me a little more self conscious, but that is only until I change the way i think not only bout myself but hangs internally how much i care about others and their opinions.
